Amazon WorkSpaces Now Supports Configurable Storage and Switching Between Hardware Bundles

Today, Amazon WorkSpaces is making two new features available. First, you can now configure how much storage your WorkSpaces get when you launch them, and increase the storage for a running WorkSpace at any time. Second, you can now change the hardware bundle that your WorkSpace is running on with a simple reboot. All of your applications, data, and storage stay the same, but now you can move to a more powerful bundle to support resource-intensive applications, or move to a less powerful bundle to save costs. With these features, Amazon WorkSpaces now provides additional flexibility to support the diverse needs of end users, while still helping you optimize your costs.

Amazon API Gateway Supports Amazon Cognito OAuth2 Scopes

You can now define and require OAuth2 scopes as part of the method-level authorization when using an Amazon Cognito Authorizer in Amazon API Gateway. This simplifies building APIs that support Cognito Oauth2 scopes by removing the need to create an AWS Lambda function that performs the authorization. A scope defines the level of access to a resource that an application has permission to. For example, if you have a resource server for storing photos, you could define two scopes: one for read access to the photos and one for write/delete access. You can require applications to request access to your APIs by including a token with one or more scopes embedded inside it. API Gateway will then use it to determine whether the API caller is authorized to access the API.

Amazon CloudWatch now supports two new chart visualization options in metrics and dashboards

We are excited to announce Zoom & Pan, and Leaderboard chart visualization options in CloudWatch Metrics console and CloudWatch Dashboards. You can use the CloudWatch console to graph metric data generated by AWS services and your applications. Now, you can zoom into a shorter time period such as one minute or five minutes while viewing the metric graph at a longer interval. To zoom into a metric graph please click and drag your mouse across the graph for the period needed. Once zoomed, you can also pan the metric graph across your selected interval, but at a zoomed detail level. To reset the zoom, simply click the zoom-out button at the top. In addition, you can also view a leaderboard of all the graphed metrics when you hover over the graph. The leaderboard shows a list of metrics and the values in the order they appear at a selected time. The Zoom & Pan, and Leaderboard visualization options are also available in CloudWatch Dashboards.

We are excited to announce that Amazon CloudWatch Alarms now supports alarming when any M out of N datapoints cross the alarm threshold. A datapoint is the value of a metric for a given metric aggregation period i.e. if you use one minute as an aggregation period for a metric, then there will be one datapoint every minute. With this launch, you can now create a CloudWatch alarm that alerts you when M out of N datapoints of a metric are above your predefined threshold, such as three out of five times in any given five minutes interval or two out of six times in a thirty minutes interval. When any M out of N datapoints are below your threshold in an interval, the alarm will be in OK state. Please note that the M datapoints out of N datapoints in an interval can be of any order and does not need to be consecutive. Consequently, you can now get alerted even when the spikes in your metrics are intermittent over an interval.

Announcing New AWS Deep Learning AMI for Microsoft Windows

Amazon Web Services now offers an AWS Deep Learning AMI  for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016. These new Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) contain all the necessary pre-built packages, libraries, and frameworks you need to start building AI systems using deep learning on Microsoft Windows. The AMIs also include popular deep learning frameworks such as Apache MXNet, Caffe and Tensorflow, as well as packages that enable easy integration with AWS, including launch configuration tools and many popular AWS libraries and tools. The AMIs come prepackaged with Nvidia CUDA 9, cuDNN 7, and Nvidia 385.54 drivers, and contain the Anaconda platform (supports Python versions 2.7 and 3.5).
