Starting today, you can search and sort your AMIs by Creation Date. AMI Creation Date serves as an additional attribute to help you identify the AMI(s) you're using to launch new instances or to manage your AMI repository. Using the new attribute, you can sort AMIs based on their creation date in ascending or descending order, or search for AMIs created before or after a particular date that you define.
AMI Creation Date is now available on the AWS Management Console. You can find this attribute by going to the EC2 console and choosing AMIs on the left navigation menu. You should see a new column on the AMIs page called "Creation Date". To sort your AMIs by creation date, simply click on the column header, or use the search box to filter your AMI results by date.

Today, AWS Config and Logstorage, developed by Infoscience Corporation, Japan, is offering an integrated solution that allows AWS customers in Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region to capture their AWS Config data and manage them from a browser. Customers can create various complex searches, analyze statistics, set up alerts and reporting on AWS Config data. For example, customers can search which instances are using approved AMIs, or which security groups were recently updated. Customers also get a visual report of the configuration snapshot delivered by AWS Config. Lastly, customers can integrate their AWS Config information with AWS CloudTrail, giving them visibility into who initiated API calls, from what IP address, etc. to result in state captured by AWS Config. Logstorage is not limited to collecting AWS Config data but can also handle textual logs in any format (eg. AWS Cloudtrail, Amazon CloudWatch Logs).

You can now backup and archive directly to scalable, cost-effective, secure Amazon S3 and Amazon Glacier storage using Gateway-VTL with Backup Exec 2015. Also, AWS Storage Gateway is now included on the Symantec Hardware Compatibility Lists (HCLs). The Backup Exec Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) includes both disk and tape targets for AWS Storage Gateway-Cached and Gateway-VTL respectively, while the NetBackup 7.x Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) includes AWS Storage Gateway-VTL. This support applies to new and existing gateways that were created or updated as of the December 16, 2014 AWS Storage Gateway maintenance update.

You can now launch Amazon EMR clusters on the next generation of Amazon EC2 Dense-storage (D2) instances. D2 instances allow you to take advantage of the low cost, high disk throughput and high sequential I/O access rates offered by these instances. Workloads that rely on data stored in the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) will benefit from the low cost per terabyte offered by D2 instances.
Amazon EMR allows you to use both HDFS, installed on instance storage, and Amazon S3 as your primary data store. Amazon EMR clusters have pre-configured defaults set for Hadoop 1.x and 2.x, to optimize performance for most workloads. You can also change these defaults using bootstrap actions.
D2 instances are available in four sizes with 6TB, 12TB, 24TB, and 48TB storage options. To learn more about the D2 instances, please visit the Amazon EC2 Instance page. You now have the ability in the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) to set values in the AWS CLI configuration file for several Amazon EMR commands. You can set these parameters once, instead of specifying them with each command. In the Amazon EMR create-cluster command, you can now set variables for the Amazon EMR service role, Amazon EC2 instance profile, SSH key name, enable debugging, and Log URI bucket in Amazon S3. You can also set the variable for local key pair location in these Amazon EMR commands: SSH, get, put, and socks.
Using the Amazon EMR create-default-roles command, you can easily create and use default AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles for your cluster’s Amazon EMR service role and EC2 instance profile. We have enhanced this command to automatically set the default Amazon EMR service role and EC2 instance profile values for their respective variables in the create-cluster command, so you do not need to specify them manually after they are created. You can now launch Amazon RDS instances running Oracle 12c. Oracle 12c introduced many new features, such as Data Redaction, Adaptive Query Optimization, inline PL/SQL functions and procedures, support for "top N" queries, Oracle Application Express (APEX) 4.2, and others.
Data Redaction is designed to allow you to mask sensitive data fields such as credit-card numbers and personally identifiable information (like U.S. Social Security numbers). Adaptive Query Optimization allows the query optimizer to adjust execution plans based on statistics gathered at statement execution time, improving query performance. You can now define stored procedures and functions in the WITH clause and use these inline objects in your queries. You can also limit the results of your queries to the top N records more easily.
To create a new Oracle 12c database instance with just a few clicks in the AWS Management Console, use the "Launch DB Instance" wizard and select the DB engine version "12.1.0.1.v1". This DB engine version supports APEX version 4.2.6.

Amazon RDS for SQL Server and Oracle now joins Amazon RDS for MySQL and PostgreSQL databases in allowing you to encrypt your databases using keys you manage through AWS Key Management Service (KMS). On a database instance running with Amazon RDS encryption, data stored at rest in the underlying storage is encrypted, as are its automated backups, read replicas, and snapshots. Encryption and decryption are handled transparently so you don’t have to modify your application to access your data. Amazon RDS encryption will work concurrently with Oracle and SQL Server’s Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and running Amazon RDS encryption will not affect TDE. When you create a new SQL Server and Oracle database instance, you can choose to enable encryption via the AWS Management Console or API. You may use the default RDS key automatically created in your account, or use a key you created using KMS, to encrypt your data.
