Crater at Moon's south pole is laced with ice, says Nasa

Shackleton crater

Nasa astronomers believe that a crater located on the Moon's south pole is laced with ice, based on surprising data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft.

Shackleton crater is more than three kilometres deep and about 20 kilometres wide. Due to the meagre tilt of the lunar spin axis, the interior of this south pole crater is permanently dark and extremely cold.
