Google downranks sites accused of copyright infringement

Google has said that it will update its search result rankings, to push websites with a large number of valid copyright removal notices towards the bottom of the page.


Any copyright holder can file a complaint with Google, and request that specific web pages are removed from the search results. Google receives a massive quantity of these -- "we're now receiving and processing more copyright removal notices every day than we did in all of 2009, says Amit Singhal, SVP of engineering.
