Cyborg cockroaches can be remotely controlled

We've spent a week covering augmented humans on Wired.co.uk, so we thought we'd chuck in an augmented cockroach to finish things off.


North Carolina State University has come up with an electronic interface that can remotely steer cockroaches, with the aim of building a smart network of bugs that can hunt for survivors in disaster scenarios.


"Our aim was to determine whether we could create a wireless biological interface with cockroaches, which are robust and able to infiltrate small spaces," said Alper Bozkurt, an electrical engineer at the University, who co-authored a paper on the project.
