US artist Alexa Meade regaled the Wired 2012 audience on the opening day of the conference, explaining how she enjoys "colouring outside the lines". The metaphor is most fitting; rather than creating an image by painting onto a canvas, Meade paints onto her subjects, resulting in works that are both an image and an installation. Some of her artwork is created using less-than-usual materials, such as milk -- a brilliant material for allowing the subject and the background to blur together, but not so helpful once the milk starts to rot.
