Mining waste has carbon storage potential

Mine waste rock may be a valuable environmental and economic commodity in the future because of its potential as a store for carbon dioxide gas.


Michael Hitch, a mining engineer and geologist at the University of British Columbia, claims that in the future mining companies could offset their CO2 emissions using the rock, turning the waste material into a valuable product.
