Colombian advertising agency Lowe SSP3 has launched a Christmas campaign to encourage wavering FARC guerrilla soldiers to defect in time for Christmas using beacons of light.
Operation Bethlehem marks the third year of activity from the agency designed to encourage demobilisation of the FARC guerrilla army, which plays a central role in perpetuating Colombia's civil conflict. There are around 8,000 current members of FARC and their mission is to overthrow the current democratic government of Colombia. It funds itself through ransom kidnappings, extortion and taxation of the illegal drug trade. The initiative has been spearheaded by the agency's chief creative officer, Jose Miguel Sokoloff.
