The truth is probably not out there, warns astrobiologist

One of the UK's leading astrobiologists has poured cold water on the hunt for extra-terrestrial life. "It is dangerous to assume life is common across the universe," said Charles Cockell, Director of the UK Centre for Astrobiology at the University of Edinburgh, at a Royal Society event on 11 March.


"People are encouraged to think that not finding signs of life is a 'failure' when in fact it would tell us a lot about the origins of life," he said in a press release for the event.
