Action urged on Arctic disease spread

Seals

Increasing human pressure in the Arctic is bringing unfamiliar diseases to local mammal populations, according to animal health specialists.


Tuberculosis that normally affects cattle populations in Britain is showing up in seals in the high Arctic, and a parasite called Toxoplasma, common in European cat populations, is being found in polar bears.
