We have added a new set of commands for Amazon Elastic MapReduce (Amazon EMR) to the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI). These commands will allow you to create, describe, manage, and terminate your Amazon EMR clusters using the AWS CLI. Also, these new commands offer an improved syntax than those on our previous Ruby-based CLI. In the future, we will only be adding new Amazon EMR functionality to our commands on the AWS CLI, and we will not be updating our Ruby-based CLI. The AWS CLI is easy to install and allows you to interact with multiple AWS services using a single tool.
The new Amazon EMR commands are available on the AWS CLI version 1.4.0 or later. If you have previously installed the AWS CLI, please upgrade to a supported version using "pip install --upgrade awscli" (view complete upgrade instructions here). If you have not installed the AWS CLI, please see our installation instructions and our configuration instructions. You can learn more about our new commands in the AWS CLI Reference or type "aws emr help" at your shell prompt.
