You can now create larger stored volumes (up to 16 TB) with AWS Storage Gateway. Gateway-Stored volumes enable durable and inexpensive off-site backups that can be recovered on-site to your hardware or within Amazon EC2. They provide low-latency access to your data, and asynchronously back up to Amazon S3 in the form of Amazon EBS snapshots. With the support for larger volumes (up from 1 TB), you will spend less time on maintenance and operational tasks like splitting datasets, striping smaller volumes, or coordinating backups across multiple volumes.
As of June 3, 2015, an updated virtual machine (VM) image is available for download from the AWS Management Console. For all existing gateways a software update has been made available containing this enhancement and other important maintenance items. It can be applied manually through the Console or automatically during the gateway’s next scheduled weekly maintenance time.
