Create Auto Scaling launch configurations that include encrypted EBS volumes

The Amazon Auto Scaling service now allows you to create launch configurations that include encrypted Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes.

When an EBS volume is encrypted, data stored at rest on the volume, disk I/O, snapshots created from the volume, and data in-transit between EBS and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) are all encrypted. Now, you can benefit from this level of data protection with EBS-backed EC2 instances managed through Auto Scaling.

This feature is free to use and available for all EC2 instance types that support EBS encryption. To get started, navigate to the Auto Scaling section of the EC2 console, create a new launch configuration, and add an encrypted EBS volume at step 4 (“Add Storage”). To learn more about this feature, review the Auto Scaling documentation.
