Japanese researchers have come up with a solution to one of the biggest problems facing electric cars: their woefully limited battery life. A team from the Toyohashi University of Technology has managed to pass electricity through ten centimetres of concrete, potentially enabling cars to charge while they drive.
The project is called Electric Vehicle on Electrified Roadway (Ever), and it uses inductive coupling to transfer 50 to 60 watts through a concrete block. The block is about the same thickness as those used on public roads in Japan.
