British universities collaborate on massive open online courses

A consortium of universities in the UK will partner to offer massive open online courses, or MOOCs, from 2013.


MOOCs are a relatively new phenomenon in higher education. They allow anyone around the world to access course materials, usually for free. They include websites like Coursera and Khan Academy.
