An initiative aimed at improving the lives of New York pedestrians has come up with a method of making scaffolding a little nicer to have around. It's called Softwalks.
Bland Hoke and Howard Chambers designed a DIY kit that allows people to turn any unsightly local scaffolding into a temporary place to hang out. It includes chairs, tables and even hanging baskets for plants.
