Fernando Alonso issued a statement of intent by hauling Ferrari to the top of the timesheets in first practice in Canada on Friday morning, above the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Behind the top three - who were covered by little more than one tenth of a second - Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel beat Williams' Valtteri Bottas and team mate Daniel Ricciardo to fourth in an error-strewn session.
